Inflation Report: Prices Heading in the Right Direction but Still Above Target
Consumers, take a deep breath! as prices decreased by 0.1% in December.
The good news doesn't stop there, as the year-over-year prices also continued to cool down last month, slowing to 6.5%, from 7.1% in November. It's the smallest annual increase since May 2021.
President Joe Biden sees this as a "break for consumers" and proof that his economic plan is working.
Brian Deese, Biden's top economic advisor sees the latest inflation report as encouraging, especially with the addition of 223,000 jobs in December and the decrease in unemployment to 3.5%.
The first inflation report of the new year is also the last before the Federal Reserve meets at the end of the month to determine how aggressively it will tackle rising costs.
Prices are heading in the right direction, but both annual increases remain above the Federal Reserve's 2% target.
Team IA’s Thoughts: Looks like inflation is finally taking a break, just in time for us to catch our breath. But let's not get too comfortable, as both annual increases still remain above the Federal Reserve's 2% target. Keep an eye out for what the Fed decides at the end of the month, and in the meantime, enjoy the momentary reprieve from rising prices.
Brazil's Stablecoin Surge: A Response to Inflation
Looks like Brazil is taking the stablecoin train to inflation-proof town.
With the country's ongoing political and economic instability, it's no wonder that more and more Brazilians are turning to stablecoins to protect their assets.
Stablecoin activity in Brazil reached new heights in 2022, with trading growing by a whopping 85% according to the CEO of Bitso.
In August 2022 alone, over $14 billion was moved via the dollar-pegged stablecoin, USDT. And the orders for USDT saw a 3x increase from October to December.
Looks like Latin America is leading the charge in crypto adoption. Who needs a boring old bank account when you have stablecoins?
Twitter 'Coins': A New Way to Reward Favorite Tweets
Twitter users, get ready to reward your favorite tweets with 'Coins'!
The social media giant is developing a new feature that allows users to give each other 'Awards' using virtual currency that can be purchased with fiat currency.
However, the minimum payout will be $50.
This move is part of Twitter's ongoing monetization strategy, even after losing many of its staff following the takeover by CEO Elon Musk.
Though it's unlikely that these Coins will be on the blockchain, it's possible that crypto could be added as a payment method through Stripe.
Now you can support your favorite tweeters with cold, hard virtual currency.
